The Samsung R355C is a low-cost, good quality bar phone that features a full QWERTY keyboard. Owing to the need to fit all the keys in a rather small area below the screen, the keys themselves are quite tiny, and may not be ideal for those with relatively large fingers. For everyone else, the keyboard is actually fairly easy to navigate.

This phone runs on the Net10 prepaid network. It works with Verizon’s and U.S. Cellular’s CDMA towers, giving you good connectivity in most of the United States. Call quality is very good, as is the phone’s hardware build quality. It feels robust and solid to the touch, however it’s not a rugged phone.

The R355C comes with a decent MP3 player, and MP3s can also be used as ring tones. There’s a camera on the rear, of mediocre quality, shooting photos at 1.3 megapixels. It doesn’t support recording video.

Built-in memory is 55MB, but memory can be expanded to up to 16MB via microSD cards (available separately). The phone can store up to 1000 contacts, supporting multiple numbers per contact, as well as picture and ring IDs. Apps include a calendar, calculator, alarm clock, stop watch, tip calculator, and more.

At 103 pixels per inch (ppi), the pixel density on the 2.2” screen is quite low, making text on screen appear a bit “blocky”. It’s still easy enough to read though. The user replaceable battery allows for 6 hours of continuous talking, or 200 hours (8.3 days) of standby time.

Apart from the QWERTY keyboard and navigation buttons, the phone also has a volume rocker on the left, and a camera shutter button on the right-hand side. A standard 3.5mm audio/headphone jack is included. The device is hearing aid compatible (M4/T3).

To sum it up, this is a low-cost phone that’s great if you’re mainly going to use it for texting and making calls. If you prefer the keyboard to be a bit bigger though, you’ll want to go for a slide or flip phone.
