The LG Extravert 2 (VN280) is a versatile dumb phone that comes with a touch screen plus a full-blown QWERTY keyboard that slides out from underneath. The QWERTY keyboard is great for texting, while the 3.2″ touch screen make it look and feel almost like a smart phone without actually being one — a great feature for kids who desire a cool phone like the big people use, but may still be a little bit too young for the lures of 24/7 connectivity.
The Extravert 2 also responds to voice commands such as “Call Tiffany”, “Send Message to John”, “Go to Calendar” and the like. A 2 Megapixel camera is installed on the back that takes decent pictures, though of course they can’t compete with a modern smart phone’s camera.
Buttons located on the sides of the phone allow you to operate the camera shutter, crank the volume up or down, and lock the screen. A notification LED will change color to indicate missed calls, unread texts, etc. Having a light that actually changes colors is a nice feature that we don’t see with most other dumb phones.
The phone’s manuals are very well written and easy to understand. They’re available in English and Spanish, and you can view or download a copy here.
Audio quality is good, and the phone is T4/M4 hearing aid compatible. A simple browser is present so you can look things up on the internet when needed, though network speed at 1 or 2G is quite limited.
The Extravert 2 has 512MB of internal memory, and it can be expanded up to a maximum of 32GB with an SD card, for those extra pictures or to store music for the phone’s MP3 player. MP3s can also be used as ring tones.
This phone doesn’t need a SIM card, as it’s bound to Verizon as a carrier.
In summary, the LG Extravert 2 is a great, user-friendly dumb phone with lots of features like voice commands, touch screen, and a full-size QWERTY keyboard; making it easy to operate in any situation. A downside would be the picture quality of the camera, so if you need your phone to take high quality pictures you may want to look elsewhere.
